Making a splash at the races – Barrel Style!

Barrel racing is much better than regular horse racing in our opinion. It’s so much more dynamic and fun. Who wants to ride in a straight line when there is so much else to do! Why are we always looking for the fastest horse? We should be looking for the most agile and most intelligent horses. To us there is no beating the excitement and adrenaline rush that comes from a good barrel race. That is why we feel it is our duty to get everyone talking and watching it rather than spending their time at the racecourse watching horses run past them.

Of course horse racing is often called the king of sports and we can’t deny our love of it. It just doesn’t compare to what we are doing at A-OK!

The best thing about horses is having a flutter! We don’t encourage gambling here but small wagers for fun never hurt anyone. Just be careful as gambling addiction is a real and dangerous thing. There are forms of betting that are considered “risk free”, they are advocated over at sites like profit accumulator¬†and oddsmonkey, they show you a way to bet safely. It’s time consuming but you get all the fun of a bet without the risk to your cash.

Now interestingly in the UK barrel racing is almost unheard of, that is something that needs to change! If you are a UK reader then your first port of call to barrel racing is wikipedia. Now that describes it primarily as a sport for woman, we don’t agree with this. That article seems outdated. Barrel racing has exploded in popularity in recent years and is enjoyed by both men and women. Just as women jockeys are entering horse racing, men are starting to enter barrel racing!

Safety is often a concern for people when they learn about this sport. You should always wear a helmet when riding a horse. We don’t condone riding without safety gear. There is simply no need in this day and age. Competitions often have a traditional feel and riders will wear traditional garb but really this needs to change. Horse riding can be dangerous, especially to inexperienced riders.

The relationship between horse and rider is so important, you aren’t merely sitting on it’s back and beating it silly all the way to the finish line. A understanding must be developed and the horse must come to understand your instructions and you must come to understand the feedback you get from the horse. That is what makes a skilled rider.

So why isn’t it a more popular sport yet? We honestly don’t know the answer to this question. We will keep plugging away and bring it to as many people as possible but at the end of the day everyone involved in the sport has a part to play. if you love the sport, shout it from the rooftops. Get your friends and family involved, even if it’s just to come and watch you.
